Building long-term sustainable growth
We are committed to serving as a force for progress in combating climate change and acknowledge that climate adaptation is critical to the success of our business and the resilience of our policyholders.
Capital as a force for good
As the steward of Liberty’s capital, Liberty Mutual Investments (LMI) balances value creation with risk management to secure Liberty’s promise to be there when our customers need us most. Through our investments, we aim to build enduring businesses, drive economic growth, and generate superior risk-adjusted returns for our business in service of our policyholders. In these ways and more, we use Liberty’s Capital as a Force for Good.
As a mutual company, we have distinct advantages in our ability to invest with a long-term focus. We grow, retain, and compound the capital we generate to reinvest in our business in the interest of our policyholders, regulators, and broader stakeholders over time. Our long-term horizon gives us the flexibility to pursue hard-to-reach investments that have significant impact. Our grounding in insurance also brings a unique understanding of risk, complexity, and economic changes to everything we do.
We take an outcome-focused approach to driving meaningful impact through our investments. We do this by leaning into dynamic and rapidly evolving sectors and by engaging early with world-class partners. Deep expertise across an integrated portfolio allows us to enter emerging sectors and invest opportunistically. Whether advancing renewable energy solutions, improving health and education outcomes, or navigating climate-related risks, our investments reflect a commitment to delivering results that matter.
“Liberty Mutual Investments (LMI) is central to how we protect our policyholders and strengthen the enterprise. By turning insurance premiums into long-term investments, we help ensure Liberty Mutual can deliver on its promises — today and for decades to come.” - Vlad Barbalat, President, Global Risk & Capital Solutions and Chief Investment Officer

Building operations
We continue to strengthen our sustainable practices by making our buildings more efficient. Through a focus on reducing energy consumption and optimizing operations, we are making these practices part of how our facilities operate every day.
Boston HQ: Both of our Boston buildings continue to operate very efficiently. We received near-perfect Energy Star scores for both facilities and an Energy Star certification for our headquarters.
London: Our London office has achieved significant energy reductions and sustainability milestones, recognized by COP30 for industry-leading electricity and gas savings. The property holds multiple prestigious certifications, including WELL Core Platinum, BREEAM In-Use Outstanding (twice) and WiredScore Platinum with a perfect score. The “Energy Strava+” gamification program empowers occupants to manage their energy footprint, fostering a culture of sustainability and identifying efficiency gains.
Singapore: Our offices are certified as Green Mark Platinum Buildings and are listed in the Green Mark Buildings Directory.
Australia: We select high-efficiency buildings that have National Australian Built Environment Ratings System (NABERS) ratings for our operations.
China and Malaysia: We lease LEED-certified buildings.
Hong Kong: We lease a Green Building Council Platinum building.
