LEGIT - Liberty Encouraging Girls in Technology
What started as a brainstorming session in a conference room in 2015 has now transformed into LEGIT - Liberty Encouraging Girls in Technology, a group that has impacted 14,000+ students, with 450+ Liberty Mutual volunteers. LEGIT is inspired to give girls the exposure to technology that many wish they had when they were younger. It is our passion to encourage and provide opportunities for future tech leaders.
Our Mission
To close the gender gap in technology by working with girls to spark their interest, encourage exploration, and motivate them to pursue a future in technology through local partnerships and community engagement.
Our impact
14,000+ Students served

"Volunteering with LEGIT these last few years has been some of the most rewarding work I’ve done. It’s truly inspiring seeing the direct impact we have on young girls, sparking their interest in STEM, encouraging them to step out of their comfort zones, and above all, reinforcing that they belong here. We’ve come a long way, but we’re far from being done, and I’m excited for the years to come!” - LEGIT Lead
Learn more about our programs:
Tech Camps
Leading tech-focused activities and lessons for middle and high school students at local universities. We help with directing students, encouraging collaboration and experimentation, and showing students the fun that can be had in STEM.
Code Clubs
Our Girl Power Code Club encourages young girls to explore technology and have fun doing it! Our goal is to create a space for girls to grow their knowledge and love for tech, together. We hope it will spark each girl’s interest and motivate them to continue to pursue technology with the support of each other and all future Girl Power club members.
Hour of Code
A global event taking place the first week of December every year, LEGIT coordinates ‘Hour of Code’ events both in person and virtually around the country to spark girls’ interest in computer programming and inspire girls to learn the basics of coding.
Afterschool Programs
Girl Scout badges, hackathons, robotics clubs, and more! LEGIT volunteers work with local schools, troops, programs, and parents to host events for girls to encourage tech exploration and learn more about the many facets of technology.
Storytimes
Initially started as a way to engage virtually with girls in the community over the pandemic, our storytimes have grown to in person classroom visits. These events are a big hit with our younger audiences, providing opportunities for industry professionals to volunteer with us reading STEM-focused children's books and lead classrooms through related activities.
