Military & Veterans
We’re proud to support the military service members and veterans who protect our community, as well as their families. With over 400,000 service members entering the civilian workforce each year, we celebrate all they have to offer with benefits and programs that help them build fulfilling careers.
Employee Programs and Benefits
Valor@Liberty + Allies: As one of Liberty Mutual's Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), Valor@Liberty seeks to engage and empower our military, veterans and ally community by creating strong internal networks and external program support.
American Corporate Partners Program: Liberty Mutual is honored to be a participant in the American Corporate Partners (ACP) mentoring program. ACP is a non-profit that offers career mentoring for veterans of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq who are transitioning to work in a civilian setting.
Reservist Pay/Benefits: Liberty Mutual offers paid time off and continuation of benefits for annual training, as well as up to two years of pay differential and benefits continuation for military members called to active duty, including the National Guard and Reserve.
Recognition and Support
Pro Patria Award: In 2018, Liberty Mutual was honored with the Massachusetts Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Pro Patria Award in the Large Business Category, which was presented by Earl Bonnett, Chair of the Massachusetts Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve and Francis Magurn, Brigadier General (Ret.) of the Massachusetts National Guard. The highest level of award bestowed by an ESGR State Committee, the Pro Patria Award recognizes a company's extraordinary support for its Guard and Reserve employees through leadership and practices, including policies that enable employees to simultaneously manage a full-time civilian job and service to our country.
Military Friendly Employer: In 2017, Liberty Mutual earned the Military Friendly® Employer designation. This is determined by combining an organization's survey score with an assessment of the organization's ability to meet thresholds for Applicant, New Hire Retention, Employee Turnover, and Promotion & Advancement of veterans and military employees. Each year, the list of Military Friendly® Employers is provided to service members and their families, helping them discover the best post-military career opportunities available.
ESGR Patriot Employer Award: In 2017, members of Liberty Mutual's commercial organization received the ESGR Patriotic Employer Award. Presented to civilian supervisors, the Patriot Employer Award recognizes efforts made by managers to support military, veteran and ally employees. Liberty leaders also signed a statement of support of the ESGR. The Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) was established by The Department of Defense in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve members and their civilian employers.
Philanthropy: Liberty Mutual recently completed a multi-year grant of $50,000 with the New England Center for Homeless Veterans, an association the company has supported since 2008. Liberty Mutual also provided a $50,000 grant to Boston-based New England Center and Home for Veterans and $30,000 grant to Community Rowing, an organization that offers free programs to veterans.
In addition, Liberty Mutual employee donation and match totaled $393,363 in contributions for Veterans organizations across the country.
