Forbes Magazine Recognizes Liberty Mutual Insurance as One of the Best Employers for Diversity in Inaugural List

Liberty ranked #25 out of 250 top companies in the country for diversity

Liberty Mutual Insurance is proud to announce that it ranks #25 on Forbes magazine’s inaugural Best Employers for Diversity list.  Working with Statista, Forbes determined the top “Best Employers for Diversity” through a survey response collection and analysis of U.S. employee perceptions that was applied to a sample of 30,000 employees working for firms or institutions that employ 1,000 or more.

“We are pleased to receive this recognition from Forbes for the work we have done to build a diverse and inclusive work environment,” said Liberty Mutual Executive Vice President for Talent & Enterprise Services Melanie Foley.   “We have taken a holistic approach and focused our work on enhancing our recruiting efforts and on building leadership capabilities so managers can be effective in attracting, advancing and retaining underrepresented populations.  By embracing all of our employees’ multiple dimensions, we are able to leverage our collective differences to ignite creative and innovative thinking.”

Forbes’ survey was conducted using an online access panel, providing a representative sample of the U.S. workforce, and took into consideration the following parameters: direct and indirect statements of age, gender equality, ethnicity, physical ability, LGBTQ+ and general diversity. Additionally, an index of objective and publicly available diversity KPIs were considered.

“We are honored and humbly accept this recognition from Forbes as an indication that we have put the right foundational pieces in place for further growth on our diversity and inclusion journey,” said Liberty Mutual Chief Diversity Officer Dawn Frazier-Bohnert. “With this foundation in place, we are using the momentum we have created to move from awareness to action by encouraging all employees to apply a D&I Lens to everything they do for their colleagues, our customers and community.”

Among Liberty’s recent D&I milestones are the recent signing by Liberty Mutual’s CEO David H. Long of:
  • the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion™ whereby the company joined the more than 175 other companies across the country who have committed to advancing diverse and inclusive workplaces; and
  • the statement of Support for the Guard and Reserve on behalf of Liberty Mutual to demonstrate our support for the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve’s (ESGR) mission to promote a culture in which employers encourage and value the employment and military service of members of the U.S. National Guard and Reserve
Liberty Mutual’s Diversity and Inclusion framework has five focus areas including Talent (attraction, advancement and retention), Development (building D&I capability), Workplace Environment, Customer and Community and at the framework’s core is Communications (D&I messaging and language). All parts of this model have to be working together for diversity and inclusion efforts to succeed.
