Types of Support

General Operating Support
General operating funds are considered for agencies whose missions closely align with Liberty’s—helping people live safer, more secure lives. Since Liberty Mutual is a major contributor to the United Way, we do not generally provide additional operating support to United Way funded agencies. We will, however, consider programmatic or capital support.

Program Support
Organizations with missions that are not educational or health and safety-related are encouraged to request specific project funding relevant to the programmatic thrust and priorities of our philanthropy program.

Capital Funding
Support for universities, colleges and medical institutions is directed primarily to capital campaigns conducted for the institution as a whole, not to individual programs or departments.

Dinners and Memberships
In addition to the philanthropic categories above, Liberty Mutual supports the community through dinners and memberships.  These requests are not considered through the Liberty Mutual Foundation and should be submitted in writing to:

Examples of Grants

Casa Myrna Vazquez (CMV)
CMV is the largest organization battling domestic violence in New England. Liberty Mutual is supporting the Mothers and Sons program (MAS)—the first program in the area to provide services for adolescent sons of battered women. The goal of MAS is to decrease the incidence of domestic violence by intervening with young men who are at high risk of perpetuating the cycle of violence.

Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD)
Liberty Mutual has a long-standing and comprehensive partnership with Students Against Destructive Decisions (formerly Students Against Driving Drunk). SADD is a national education and prevention organization representing young people in thousands of school-based chapters nationwide. Along with providing much technical assistance and executive involvement, Liberty Mutual has provided SADD with consistent financial support since the 1980’s. (top)
