Owned and operated by Liberty Mutual Insurance, Boston, MA, the Institute conducts peer-reviewed research to advance scientific knowledge and help reduce injuries and prevent disability.

The Research Institute was honored with the International Ergonomics Association (IEA) Human Factors and Ergonomics Prize.
Researchers from the UK won the 2015 IEA/Liberty Mutual Medal. for their research paper entitled “Management of personal safety risk for lever operation in mechanical railway signal boxes” (Applied Ergonomics, Vol. 45, pp. 221-233, 2014).
